Fruit Quality Controls
The quality of some fruits depends on a rainy season. Apples, pears, and grapes grown in areas with dry summers have usually a superior flavor. The raisin making in California depends on the same condition, because, in order to get good quality, bunches of grapes, must be dried. This can be true for other fruits, such as dates and figs, which are often sun-dried.

A good long courtship - will often cure many difficulties or ills of the sexual organs. O. S. Fowler says, "see each other often spend many pleasant hours together," have many walks and talks, think of each other while absent, write many love letters, be inspired to many love feelings and acts towards each other, and exercise your sexuality in a thousand forms ten thousand times, every one of which tones up and thereby recuperates this very element now dilapidated. About Baseball - Baseball became the National Game in 1885, although it was played to some extent as early as 1840. The first baseball club was known as the New York Knickerbockers, which was organized in 1845, and the first match game was played at Hoboken, NJ, in 1846.

The first rules governing baseball were made in New York City, in 1857. Of an older league, the first champion team was that of New York, in 1858, but it was not until 1868 that team salary began. The National League was formed in 1876, and the American League in 1881.

The First Refugees

The edict of Nantes in 1598, granted the Protestants, known as Huguenots, full civil rights, liberty of conscience, and public worship in many places, and notably in the royal jurisdictions.
The Catholics, whose religion was essentially a state religion, had never accepted this arrangement as final, and at last, in 1685, under King Louis XIV, the edict of Nantes was revoked, and the Protestant pastors expelled from France.
Their followers were forbidden to leave the country, but many succeeded nevertheless in escaping abroad. From the Huguenots escaping an evil France, comes the concept and word we know today as refugees. ◆

How can a Boor be Happy? - With a gloomy face, sour disposition, complaining habits and inherent lack of good taste and culture, a boor sees only the shadows of life. Boors repulse folks, not attract them. Brilliant people of refinement and taste will have nothing to do with them. The boor only lives a sorry, complaining, gloomy, life without companions as an outcast from that better society we all desire to know. ▪

Canada's Ontario - This province is a peninsula bordered by Lakes Huron, Erie, and Ontario.

Farming is the chief employment, and barley is an important product. Most of it is used in the manufacture of malt, and "Canada malt" is regarded as the best. Several of the trunk railways whose terminals are in the United States traverse this peninsula. Toronto, the capital and commercial center, is one of the most rapidly growing cities of North America. Clean Toilets & Dress
Don't let one day pass without a thorough cleansing of your person. Don't sit down to your evening meal before a complete toilet if you have company. Don't cleanse your nails, your nose or your ears in public. Don't use hair dye, hair oil or pomades. Don't wear evening dress in daytime. Don't wear jewelry of a gaudy character; genuine jewelry modestly worn is not out of place. ◆

The home is the true school of courtesy, of which women are often the best practical instructors. Philanthropy radiates from the home as from a center. It was said that, "to love the little platoon we belong to in society is the seed of all public affections." The wisest and best are not ashamed to say their greatest joy and happiness is to sit in the inviolable circle of a good home life. ▰

Fast Scooters - Ever since the introduction of motor scooters from Italy, America has began a new off and on love affair with an old form of transportation. In mild climate areas in the South and West, more people are choosing the leather jacketed and chic scooter lifestyle. The Vespa was first made famous in Hollywood movies of the 1960's.

Easy to drive, the small machines are also agile and weigh less than motorcycles. These new scooters have a strong reputation for quality, value, and sturdiness. A motorcycle license is required for the bigger models that can reach highway speeds of 60 mph. A scooter can be a wise choice for budget minded commuters. ●

This forest contains the various species of pine, cedar, and other conifers, the oaks, maples, elms, and birches.

Most of the forests of Europe have been greatly depleted, though those of Norway and Sweden are still productive.
The forests of the United States, extending from Maine to Dakota, have been so well nigh exhausted that by 1950 only a very little good lumber-making timber will be left.

Go Outside and Play
Give your young people plenty of amusement outdoors, way less of computer screens, and more of croquet, dancing, hiking, and lawn tennis. Stimulate the methods of pure thoughts in innocent amusement, and your daughters and sons will mature to adulthood pure and chaste in character. Wise parents will consider year-round daycare centers outdoors, where mother nature becomes a playground. Acclimate the kids to cold weather and they will happily play in cold winter snow all day. ●

Puerto Rico - Formerly a Spanish colony, it is now a possession of the USA. The island is about the size of Connecticut. The industries are almost wholly agricultural, and nearly the whole surface is under cultivation. Sugar, coffee, and tobacco are grown for export, and these comprise the chief source of income. Seven and Twelve - In reference to planets and Zodiac signs, the numbers seven and twelve were thought as sacred by the Astrologers, and dedications were made to them in many ways.

The first and best school of politeness, as of character, is always the home, where good family is the teacher. The manners of society at large are but the reflex of the manners of our collective homes, neither better nor worse. Yet, with all the disadvantages of unfriendly homes, folks may practice self-culture of manner as of intellect, and learn by good examples to cultivate a graceful and agreeable behavior towards others.
Most folks are like so many gems in the rough, which need polishing by contact with other and better natures, to bring out their full beauty and luster. Some have but one side polished, sufficient only to show the delicate graining of the interior; but to bring out the full qualities of the gem, needs the discipline of experience, and contact with the best examples of character in the intercourse of daily life. ▰

Outside the foodstuffs, probably no other material is more generally used by human beings than the products of the large beautiful forests. More people live in homes made of wood than made by brick or stone, and more people burn wood than burn coal. Even in steam-making a considerable power is still produced by the use of wood for fuel. "All the cruise ships we see these days are here for a whole different reason," says Barry Gibson, an activities director on a big ocean liner. "The ships are for a future emergency - to evacuate the rich elite," he warns.

A doomsday report (the "report") claims how survivors in the watery future will battle to control what little land and resources remain. A big wet future is a huge concern and now rainy seasons are often above average. Storms are worse than ever before.

"Not everyone will survive," says Helen Gaynor of Newark New Jersey. "First, the coastal lowlands will flood. And then the rest of the Earth’s plane," she adds.

The report says "The Day After Tomorrow" film helps explain how weather will take 10 years to reset back to normal. It will take a whole generation (40 years) in the buildup to the crisis and in the time it takes for the water to subside (go away).
